Cupcake

My first boss on 7th Avenue was named Roger.  His company was a design studio which was essentially the entire 'back room' of a fashion house.  We made sketches, patterns, muslins, and finished garments.  It was an incredible first job for a rookie from the Midwest.  Anyway, he taught the entire staff pretty much everything we knew.  He had silly phrases like 'When your kids pattern is finished it should be a little cupcake'.   This little dress brought his quote to mind as I was finishing it.

New Mini

June 08 020

I just finished this beauty today for a client.  The entire bodice is hand embroidered and then quilted by machine.  It's amazing how much time you can spend on a 1x6 inch piece of fabric!!!  I just love doing the handwork. It's all very Zen and 'New Earth'.  (I just finished reading Eckhardt Tolle's book called The New Earth.  He says you should live in the moment NOW and artists are very good at doing just that).  On to the next project :)

Girls night out

Sex cityThe Times was wrong.  The movie was wonderful.  The theatre was filled with only ONE guy in the whole place.  He was brave.  Very brave.  Anyway, the clothes were outrageously fabulous and it was a great film.  No perfect storybook endings, just real, messed up life that sometimes turns out for the better.  I think I need to see it again.

Miss Pixie's Spring Line

May 08 016 Well, here is the debut of her line.  She is very inspired and free with her talent.  I keep these up on a tall shelf so everyone that comes into the studio can see her work also.

Gone to the Beach

April_08_010

Well, this tells you where I've been lately.  Our trip seemed to take the whole month of April (packing, traveling, visiting, traveling).  I just love this photo.  It looks like they're looking into the future.

Babycats_008

This is also where we've been!  Her name is Tigger and she is just eight weeks old.  I'd forgotten what it's like-she sleeps on our heads, grabs our ankles when we walk by, and is a bouncing hopping bundle of love in the house.  Good stuff.

Update

Well, I am still in a fog after seeing the psychic.  I have always wanted to go to one just out of curiosity.  It was worth every penny AND the nine month wait to get in to see him!  I am so glad I took the tape recorder because there is no way to capture all that he was saying with a pencil.  He said so many things that were eerily accurate (family relationships, etc).  He said that I will re-invent myself and my creative life in the next year!  I wish that one was more specific. He said that Miss Pixie was a 'rip' and that I'm in for a wild ride with her (100% true, I already know!) and that Little Biggie is very sweet and sensitive (again, right on).  It was very humbling.

Also, the philanthropic brunch was a hit.  I don't know who won my baby girl dress, but she looked happy!   The mini got lots of great comments and my new client comes next week with her dress to be copied.  I'm so glad I pushed myself and finished.  Now I have the gorgeous ooh la la gown in my studio.  Nice treat!

Ooh laa laa

Favorites_07_and_08_mini_too_w_fluf

I did it!  I finished in time for the event.  I think it turned out beautifully, no?  You can see I framed the original gown picture there behind it.  It's a great dress for dancing.  Miss Pixie even gave her nod of approval.  I will report on the response of the auction!

On a crazier note, I am going to a psychic tomorrow!  I had to wait 9 months to get my appointment.  I can't WAIT to see what he says.  He is amazing.  He found my sister-in-law's missing jewelry for her among other things.   Ooooh it will be good.  Will report on that also.

Finished basket

Mar_15_08_001

This is the baby dress basket for the brunch.  It looks cute-I would bid on it!  I can't put my label on the dress or hat because they are both reversible.  I'd like to say that I made that cute bunny, but nope. Short post- I'm making more 'poufs'!

Mini countdown

Mar_15_08_002_2

Well, I have two weeks to get this finished.  It sounds like alot of time, but with a two year old that never sits still and no help, it will be a close call.  I thought for this sample I would make a gown with no lace, no beads, and zip through it.  Of course, I pick a gown that has 88 little 'poufs' that need to be hemmed.  According to this picture I have only 84 more to go!  I think I am moving the sewing machine out of the studio this week and onto the dining room table.  That way, as Little Biggie is doing laps around the house, I can be hemming with one hand and waving to him with the other.

I haven't posted in a week and I know that I find that annoying when I'm reading someone else's blog. The days fly by don't they?

Projects are haunting me

I have not set foot in my studio for over a week and all of the things I want to be doing are staring at me through those walls.  Here is what I have to do in three weeks:

1 fabulous mini gown that originally costs $5,500, so it better be good. (Waiting on fabric from fabric fairy)

1 Easter dress for very picky Miss Pixie ,so it better be good.

3 sleeveless blouses for Florida because I have nothing to wear and my sister (who'll be there) always looks great.

1 pair of plaid party pants for Little Biggie because he has no lightweight Florida pants.

Never mind anything new for my Etsy shop!

So, since I am not in the studio (still no babysitter), this is what I am doing instead-

picking out pansies.  Aren't they just delicious?  Little Biggie picked them out!  I wanted the blue, but he insisted on ORANGE!  He was right.  They are perfect for this grey day.
